Science, Religion, Maps and Metaphors

Science is simply a language to describe the world around us. Religion is no more or less just such a language. While the words in the language of science build maps that describe the territory, the words in the language of religion build metaphors that people mistakenly take at face value. A truly spiritual person would take the words of religion and see through the metaphors to connect with their underlying message. Simply live in ways that allow everyone to get along. Beyond its metaphors, there is no supernatural salvation, no afterlife, no judgment from above. Just the blessing of the opportunity to be conscious of being alive, to be as good at being alive as you can, and to respect everything in it. There is no supreme being. There is just the realization that you and you alone are the creator of your experience. No matter what gets thrown at you, you’re responsible for your experience of it.
